About Me

My name is Lorie and I want you to know that writing a good About page is harder than you’d think, so I’m throwing in the towel and giving you mediocrity.

I live in Mississippi with my husband, Richard, who is an English and Spanish teacher at a small rural high school in Alabama.  Just so you know, he does not usually edit my blog, hence the typos and comma errors.  I graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1997 with a degree in Social Work, but I left the work force when I got married in 1999 because I quickly discovered that I excel at household management.  My daughter got married and moved out a couple of years ago, so instead of being a SAHM (stay-at-home-mom), I am now a SAHW (stay-at-home-wife).  It may not be the most glamorous job, but, hey, it pays the bills.
My husband and I are the best of friends and one of the reasons I love him so much is that he drops me off at the door of Stein Mart and then comes back to get me when I call him two or six hours later.  The man just gets me.  In his spare time he hunts deer and wild turkeys with a flintlock muzzleloader.  He also stays shrewdly informed about the weather and advises me on how to properly read a radar map.

My daughter Amber married Isaac, and they had Brayden, our adorable grandson.  Amber and I love to eat buttercream by the spoonful and watch reruns of Reba because that Barbara Jean--she’s a hoot.  Isaac also loves hunting, which means our family outings usually involve trips to Bass Pro Shop.  And Brayden pretty much has us all wrapped around his teeny, tiny, perfect, little finger.

I blog about my life and life in general, and since I’m a woman, many of my posts have a feminine slant, so the letters PMS show up here often.  What can I say?  I blog what I know and I know PMS.  I also poke fun at everyday events like the time I set my daughter’s kitchen on fire, experiencing what may or may not be real hot flashes, my family's secret to jump-starting a diet, and things like that.  I think that if you can’t laugh at the mundane experiences in life, then that's kind of sad.  However, I would never want to hurt or embarrass anyone through this blog.  I hope I’m careful with my words and if you think that I’m not, you can send me a polite email letting me know that I’ve crossed the line.  And I promise to pray about it.
Which brings me to my next point.   I also sometimes write about my faith in Jesus Christ.  Even then, I cannot swear I won’t poke fun because I am absolutely convinced that God has a sense of humor.
I also have conservative views and traditional values, but I rarely if ever talk about hot political topics, so if you’re a lefty liberal you don’t have to feel uneasy here.  I’m sure there’s something we could talk about.  I’ve learned quite a bit about the weather.  See paragraph three.
In conclusion, I’m a big fan of Noxzema, sipping my morning coffee in complete and utter silence, sarcasm that is not mean-spirited, and the color green.
And one more thing.  I’m glad you’re here.
PS.  I also love to cook and bake and write recipes, and I have actually won prizes, trips, and money for doing this.  No one is more surprised by this than me.  You can visit me at my food blog at Mississippi Kitchen.

PPS.  You may email me here.
